"SEZAM"
"SEZAM" is a restaurant offering dishes prepared according to recipes of Russian and Central Asian cuisine. Our restaurant is located in the heart of Queens.
Our history
Isak, the owner of the Sezam restaurant, began his career in this business, working in his homeland in Tajikistan, in the city of Dushanbe, in similar restaurants as a waiter. He mastered the recipes of his grandmother, who worked as a cook most of her life. Arriving in New York, he continued to work as a waiter in various restaurants.
After some time, Isak prepared several types of kebabs and pasties for his friend. These were pasties with different fillings: meat, mushrooms, potatoes and cabbage. The friend was delighted with such a delicacy, which he had never tried before in his life. Isak began preparing chebureks for his family, his friends, acquaintances, who had never tasted such delicious delicacies before. And the more he prepared them and treated people to them, the more popular his pasties became. Word about them spread throughout the city. And Isak decided to open an establishment where everyone could enjoy the delicious food he had prepared.
Since May 2002, he worked at Cheburechnaya, which won the hearts and tastes of many people, including those who came to New York for the first time. The Cheburechnaya restaurant began with a small hall with no more than 10 tables, which could accommodate no more than forty people. Now, thanks to the support of customers and friends, “Cheburechnaya” has become three times its original size, but its doors are still open to its regular customers and new guests.
In 2018, he opened a new restaurant, “Shashlychnaya”. Here you can try different shashalyks, chebureki, samsa and many different very tasty dishes.
In 2024, the restaurant was renamed Sezam.
SHAB
Shish kebab is originally a dish of finely chopped lamb, threaded on a skewer and baked on charcoal in a grill; In this case, it is possible to use marinade from the simplest spices—salt, pepper, vinegar, to complex multicomponent compositions that require special preparation. Later, the name “kebab” in Russian extended to dishes made from pork, poultry, fish, and vegetables, prepared in the same way.
